Station Work
Growing up on sheep and cattle stations has given me the life experience to provide opportunities for work, and still ties into my passion for caring. Work on stations has included nannying, caring for stock and homestead animals such as dogs, chooks, pigs, and poddies, as well as for the other workers.
The work included:
- Undertaking basic administration duties by collating paperwork, completing reports, and handling communicative methods associated with business management
- Providing customer service and care
- Conducting duties in a professional manner with mature and responsible behaviour
- Maintaining homestead areas and performing duties associated with tourism aspects
- Implementation and maintenance of regimes to control pests, as well as management of land towards conservative and regenerative practices, including conducting land surveys
- Adhering to the principles of low-stress stock handling
- Ensuring living entities such as livestock and homestead animals constantly had access to food and water
- Maintenance and monitoring of power supply systems
- Assessing and managing hazards and risks
- Using technology to communicate reports and undertake meetings
- Implementing strategies for best care practice
- Purchasing of goods and running of errands, stocking products, and maintaining the quality of perishable items
- Using safe and hygienic work practices to prepare meals, including portioning to cater to each person including dietary requirements
- Tasks as a station hand including yard work, drafting, mustering, lamb marking, milking, among many other aspects
- Living a rural or remote lifestyle
I have also listed some details of my station work in my blog.
